Maria Ressa - We're all being manipulated the same way

  1. What problems is the author discussing in this article?

    1. How fake news or disinformation can really hurt or cause a bunch of conflict to oneself.

    2. How the news, social media can change information, they don't look at the facts. They try to find a way to discredit someone

    3. FAKE NEWS

    4. How the virtual world also can hurt someone in the real world

    5. Cant believe the news all the time

  2. How does this problem arise because of technology?

    1. The UNESCO report looked at almost half a million social-media attacks Maria

    2. 90 hate messages per hour.

    3. Sixty percent tear down Marias credibility.

    4. 40 percent tear down Marias spirit

  3. What solutions does the author suggest?

    1. Technology needs guardrails in place.

    2. Rappler platform was created

    3. Rappler is a news website

    4. Reach out to other people and asked them to contact Rappler if they experience or have heard lies.

    5. Four layers

      1. Each of the newsgroups have links to each other—that’s good for search. And they also then share each other.

      2. Mesh-Then we connect it to each other, like a mesh. So all our human-rights organizations, our business groups, the church, environmental groups, civil societies, and NGOs are taking what the newsgroups are doing and sharing it with emotion.

      3. Research -Every week a research group will come out and tell Filipinos how we are being manipulated, who is gaining, and who is behind the networks of disinformation.

      4. Legal groups -They get the data pipeline and they then file both strategic and tactical litigation.

  4. How would you solve the problems outlined?

    1. Honestly there will never be a solution for this in my opinion. I totally respect on how Maria has take the initiative to make her own platform to embrace fake news and disinformation. But there are so many people in the world that don't take the time to understand the whole situation and they like to jump to conclusion right away. The only I suggest is to just inform people that you need to take your time and effort before making an argument and talking about very important topics in our world. Understanding a movement, news, important information that is being expressed in our society is very important. Jumping to allegation and discrediting this information right way is a bad mindset when discussing these issues. Think before you speak!!! -BIGGEST SOLUTION I CAN GIVE/ADVICE. Another solution can be there should be a individual that analyzes all information before it is exposed to our society or social media. Like a middleman, someone that is not for either side. But our system is so corrupted there will always be a side chosen.
